PPTP Configuration on Windows 2000/XP

  1. Open the Network Connections window.
    XP Menu: Click Start > Connect To > Show all Connections
    Classic Menu: Click Start > Settings > Network Connections
  2. Click "Create a new connection" under Network Tasks.

  3. Click Next to continue from the Welcome window.

  4. Select "Connect to the network at my workplace" and click Next.

  5. Select "Virtual Private Network connection" and click Next.

  6. Enter NIU in the Company Name field, and click Next.

  7. Enter vpn1.ess.niu.edu in the Host name or IP address field, and click Next.

  8. Check "Add a shortcut to this connection to my desktop," and click Finish.

Connecting

  1. Double click the NIU link on the Desktop.
  2. Enter your user name and your password in the user name and password fields, and click Connect.

  3. Use the internet.
