Access GroupWise Using POP or IMAP on a Mobile Device

Users can use either POP3 or IMAP to send and retrieve e-mail through GroupWise. Calendar functions will not work in the same way as a device connected to either the BES or GMS Service. POP and IMAP are NOT SECURE transfers from the mailbox to the Device.

The following information is required:

  1. POP Client Installed
    • Must have a POP client installed on the mobile device
    • Contact your carrier or visit the device website to obtain information on how to retrieve the client
  2. Incoming Mail Server
    • Set the incoming mail server (POP) address: mail.staff.niu.edu
    • Supply your GroupWise login information to the server in the POP client
  3. Outgoing Mail Server
    • The outgoing mail server is an SMTP connection
    • POP clients should have SMTP support
    • The NIU SMTP connection will require the user to validate the connection to send outgoing e-mail
    • Set the outgoing server (SMTP) address: smtp.staff.niu.edu
    • Use your Novell login information to validate when setting up
  4. Save
    • Save this information, begin to receive and send e-mail from GroupWise

ITS will give a best effort for support, however the setup and functionality is not supported.
