Students

  1. Go to www.students.niu.edu/provisioning .  This will open in a new window so you can refer back to these instructions.
  2. Accept NIU's security certificate to proceed.
  3. Enter your Z-ID in the AccountID field and then your password.
  4. Click on the Login button.
  5. Read the NIU Acceptable Use Policy.  If you want to proceed, you must choose Agree from the drop down list near the bottom of the page and then click Submit.
  6. Click on Proceed to available services and then click on Activate.
  7. Your www directory on the NetWare user volume (H drive) will be activated.  Click on Return to Available Services.
  8. Click Logout.

You now have a directory on the NetWare user volume (H: drive) labelled www. Student directories are 50MB.

To get the URL for your web page, you add /~ and then your Z-ID to www.students.niu.edu. For example, www.students.niu.edu/~z123456. This URL defaults to the file you create called index.html (not index.htm) in your www directory. If you create folders within your www directory, the default page for each folder is index.html.

To use Mozilla's Composer to create your web pages, see How to publish your student web page with Mozilla's Composer. Mozilla is in the ITS computer labs.

If you are not in a computer lab, you need to use FTP (File Transfer Protocol) to move files from your computer to the web server.  See Using FTP to connect to your H: drive for instructions.
